  • Disk Utility ask for the confirmation for erasing the USB drive.
  • Set Source to “ BaseSystem.dmg” and Drag and drop the USB drive into the Destination box (as per below image).
  • Click Restore Tab to open Restore options.
  • Now again open Disk Utility and select BaseSystem.dmg from the left sidebar.
  • (If you cant able to see “BaseSystem.dmg” Kindly follow the above terminal command to reveal the hidden files.)
  • Open the mounted “ OS X Install ESD“, you can find “ BaseSystem.dmg“, “ BaseSystem.chunklist” Files and “ Packages” Folder.
  • Right Click and select “ Show Package Contents” and Navigate to /Contents/SharedSupport.
  • If you already have DMG File, Just Mount Directly or You have downloaded App file of the Installer go to Applications folder to locate “ Install OS X 10.9 Developer Preview.app” file.
  • ( You can use the same command instead of TRUE, type FALSE to hide the hidden files after preparing the Bootable drive)

    I have also reset the the NV-ram as well (or I think I have done it, by unplugging, removign the ram, command+option+p+r and three beeps etc.Note: Your Finder will be restarted and it will be show the hidden files in your Mac. I see Mac Osx Base System and Install ESD and a alot of other disks.Įven though I plugged in my hard disk to a win 7 pro and did diskpart and cleaned all the EFI partitions on my physical hard disk, I still see a lot of other disks/volumes in the list. disk 0 is my physical Sata HD drive, disk 1 is my bootable flash drive with el capitan and the rest is just what I don't understand and want.

    It gives me a list of all disks and volumes available in the system. Then I start Terminal and run Diskutil list command. I have a i5, 27inch, 4 gb, 500 gb sata, 2009 late iMac and I have a 8 gb El capitan bootable flash drive plugged in one of the USB ports in the back.
